About the accommodation

Ukonrinne is a spacious one-floor house equipped with modern comforts and air conditioning, located in a peaceful residential area in the center of Puumala, within a short walking distance from the local services. Restaurants, harbour, shops, forests, public swimming areas and public saunas are just only a few minutes’ walk from the accommodation. The accommodation is well suited for couples and families, boaters, cyclists or vacationers, both for a short stay and for a longer period.

The house is easily accessible by public transportation, car, bicycle, etc., and it has its own yard and parking space. From the living room windows there is a partial view of the lake (south-west view). The distance to the shore of Lake Saimaa is approx. 100 m. The house can accommodate up to 4 guests and WiFi is available. Self-check in through a lock box.

The house is thoughtfully decorated with convenience and comfort in mind. In the kitchen and bathroom, you’ll find all the essentials you need to make yourself feel at home. We warmly welcome visitors that are looking for a relaxing stay in the Lake Saimaa area.

The Ukonrinne house is approximately 90 m² in size and includes a comfortable backyard. This holiday house in Puumala is spacious and can comfortably accommodate up to four people across its two bedrooms with three beds. The single-story layout includes a large kitchen, a cozy living room with a sofa, a flat-screen TV, and a dining table, as well as two bedrooms and a bathroom. The living room faces southwest, ensuring plenty of natural light throughout the day. There is parking space for one car on the property.

The house features a well-equipped kitchen with all you need to prepare delicious homemade meals.

Meals can be prepared using the electric stove and oven.

The accommodation has two bed rooms. There is one 180×200 cm double bed, one 90×200 cm bed and one 120×200 cm beds. Each bedroom has it’s own window, one with a partial lake view and the other on spruce trees. 

There is one bathroom at the house, where the toilet and the washing machine are located. Our guests can make use of the 5 kg washing machine. We provide laundry detergent. There are also an iron and an ironing board.

In 2025, we installed a brand new airco at the accommodation. In the winter, the house is heated through hot air (electric heat pump). The bathroom has an underfloor heating for extra comfort and a heated rack to quickly dry towels.

  • From Helsinki: About 300 km (a 3.5-hour drive).
  • From Tampere: About 335 km (a 4-hour drive).
  • From Mikkeli (train station): About 71.7 km to the west (roughly a 1-hour drive).

Coming with public transportation:

The easiest way to reach the holiday house in Puumala using public transportation from nearby cities is to travel via Mikkeli. From Mikkeli, buses run daily to Puumala, with a journey time of 1 hour and 25 minutes. A one-way ticket for adults costs around €13, while discounted rates apply for Mikkeli travel pass holders.

The bus stops in Puumala’s center near the church, and from there, Ukonrinne Holiday House is just 900 meters away, approximately a 13-minute walk.

If you are travelling to Puumala from Mikkeli, you will enjoy one of the most scenic routes in the Nordic countries, namely Road 62. This road has many beautiful curves, with pine trees in the background and parts where you will be driving between incredible islands. Additionally, day trips to other cities in the region are convenient by car or motorcycle from Puumala.

During the entire year, there are so many fun and good activities to do in Puumala. Close to Ukonrinne, it is possible to:

  • Visit the Puumala Bridge and enjoy the impressing view of the lake on the viewing platform of the bridge
  • Visit the unique 19th century Puumala Wooden Church (Lutheran), inaugurated in 1832
  • Visit the good lake side swimming area’s Sappulan uimaranta (Sapulla Beach) and Veeran ranta (Veera’s beach) at Puumala. Both at these beaches, there are changing rooms for public use. In the winter, ice swimming (swimming in the frozen lake) is possible at Veera’s beach.
  • Explore the old wartime Finnish bunkers (“Salpalinjan Bunkkeri”)
  • In the winter: Make use of the good cross-country ski trails close to the accommodation

At the Puumala harbour, it is possible to go on a boat trip to explore Lake Saimaa, rent a canoe, kayak or boat and mountain bike. There are afforrable renting possibilities from local companies.

In the summer, swimming in Lake Saimaa is a must when staying in Puumala. From the Ukonrinne house, two excellent swimming beaches with changing rooms (Sappulan uimaranta and Veeran ranta), are easily accessible and at walking distant.

Not far from Ukonrinne, you can find excellent hiking paths in the forest and cross-country ski trails. We recommend the “Kuntorata valaistu” (6.5 km, medium-hard level) and “Sahanlahti jäälatu” (6 km, easy level) trails if you enjoy cross-country skiing.

Cottage Information and Rental Rules

  • Reservations for our cottage can be made through the Johku online booking system, email, Whatsapp, or by calling us. The confirmation of the booking will be sent once the payment has been completed.

  • This accommodation fits maximum four people. There are (1x) 180×200 cm double bed, (1x) 90×200 cm and (1x) 120×200 cm beds in the bedrooms of the house. Pets are not allowed. 

  • Check-in: starting at 15.00 on the day of arrival.
  • Check-out: by 12.00 on the day of departure.

Guests are expected to leave the place tidy before check out. Please go through at least the following list:

  • Please empty your groceries from the refridgerator and leave it clean
  • Please collect your garbage and place them in the garbage bin outside the house.
