About the accommodation

Latukka is a charming and well-equipped cottage, located in the scenic area of Viljakansaari in Puumala. The cottage is accessible by both car and boat. This authentic Finnish cottage with electricity offers modern comforts to our guests who wish to relax comfortably in the nature. We welcome visitors who appreciate nature and peaceful surroundings to rent the Latukka cottage for a relaxing holiday. The private wood-fired sauna of the cottage is equipped with an electric pump and the cottage is heated through the electric heating and/or through the fire-place. The cottage can accommodate up to 4 guests and has windows to all four directions, offering stunning views. Bedsheets, normal usage of fire-use, electricity and gas are included in the rent.

Latukka is a 60 m² cottage with a spacious 50m² terrace. The single-story layout includes an entrance hall, kitchen, a cozy living room with a large wooden dining table and a TV corner, a bedroom, with the sauna located within the same building. The terrace, which is partially covered, has a modern gas BBQ and an outdoor dining table. The family bedroom has a big double bed (160x200cm double bed) and a crib for the young visitors.

In the living room, there are two single beds (80 x 200 cm) located in the corner. The new outdoor terrace offers the perfect space for outdoor dining, grilling, relaxing after the sauna, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones while enjoying the lovely lake-side views.

This Finnish cabin is perfect for guests looking for a peaceful family or couple’s holiday, to be in nature, and to experience the calm of Lake Saimaa. The private outdoor sauna is located right next to the main cottage. The comfortable changing room of the sauna is located indoors. The cottage has a wood-fired sauna and the usage of moderate firewood, electricity and gas is included in the rent.

The house features a well-equipped kitchen to prepare delicious homemade meals. The Latukka cottage has an electric powered stove, an electric oven and a wood-fired powered stove (to cook and to bake). On the terrace, there is a multifunctional gas grill (BBQ) with a gas pit for outdoor cooking in the summer. Inside, there is a refrigerator with a freezer compartment to store groceries. A microwave coffee maker, water cooker and toaster are also present.

Our guests can make use of the cooking utensils, tableware and basic spices that are on the shelves.

The accommodation has one main bedroom with a 60x200cm double bed and a wooden baby bed. Two single beds (80x200cm) are located in the corner of the living room. The bedroom has a window with curtains.

The cottage has a comfortable wood-fired sauna that our guests can use during their stay. The sauna is located right next to the cottage, accessible from the outdoor terrace.

After each sauna session, our guests can cool down in the clear, blue, stunning lake. From the sauna, it’s easy to reach the moderately-sized private sandy beach. A wooden dock brings our guests to the deeper water area.

The Latukka cottage is fully equipped with electricity, making it perfect for guests that want to experience cottage life for the first time or for those who simply want to enjoy a stay in the nature without sacrificing modern conveniences such as an electric stove, water cooker, or hairdryer. The electricity can be used for daily activities such as cooking on the electric stove, heating, using the indoor lights and to charge electronic devices as a phone or a tablet.

Heating in the cottage is regulated through the electric heater located throughout the cottage (bedroom and living room). The cottage can also be heated through the wood-powered stove and the fire place.

Firewood for the wood-stove/fireplace and sauna is stored in the storage shelter close to the cottage.

On the yard, just a some steps from the cottage, we have installed an environmental friendly toilet in the spring of 2023.

It is clean, modern and uses a composting method to efficiently serve as a toilet. Toilet paper and composting materials to put in the toilet after using it, are available in the toilet.

From the cottage, a beautiful lake view opens to the west of Saimaa’s Kietävälänvirra towards the sunset. During the stay, our guests can fully relax and enjoy the beautiful and unique lake-side scenes. Both the cabin and the sauna offer fantastic views to the west.

In the evening, the sunset can be watched from the terrace or the deck of the cottage. Beginning in late September, when the conditions are favourable and the nights become darker earlier, our guests may witness a sky full of stars.

Latukka cottage in Puumala is conveniently situated within a reasonable driving distance from several major Finnish cities. Latukka Cottage is about 24 km away from Puumala’s city center. The adress of the cottage is: Latukantie 118, 52200 Puumala.

Driving to the cottage in Puumala:

  • From Helsinki: Approximately 300 kilometers, about a 3.5-hour drive.
  • From Tampere: Approximately 335 kilometers, about a 4 hour drive.
  • Mikkeli: About 93 kilometers to the west, roughly a 1-hour drive.

If you are traveling to Puumala from Mikkeli, you will enjoy one of the most scenic routes in the Nordic countries, namely Road 62. This road has many beautiful curves, with pine trees in the background and parts where you will be driving between incredible islands. Additionally, day trips to other cities in the region are convenient by car or motorcycle from Puumala.

The cottage is surrounded by beautiful coniferous forest, and there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. The mushroom and berry-picking areas around the cottage are excellent.

Activities in Puumala:

During the entire year, there are also many fun and good activities to do in Puumala center. Some examples are:

  • Visit the Puumala Bridge and enjoy the impressing view of the lake on the viewing platform of the bridge
  • Visit the unique 19th century Puumala Wooden Church (Lutheran), inaugurated in 1832
  • Visit the good lake side swimming area’s Sappulan uimaranta (Sapulla Beach) and Veeran ranta (Veera’s beach) at Puumala. Both at these beaches, there are changing rooms for public use. In the winter, ice swimming (swimming in the frozen lake) is possible at Veera’s beach.
  • Explore the old wartime Finnish bunkers (“Salpalinjan Bunkkeri”)
  • In the winter: Make use of the good cross-country ski trails close to the accommodation

At the Puumala harbour, it is possible to go on a boat trip to explore Lake Saimaa, rent a canoe, kayak or boat and mountain bike. There are afforrable renting possibilities from local companies.

LOCATION OF THE COTTAGE

Latukka cottage is located in the Viljakansaari area of Puumala, a beautiful area surrounded by Lake Saimaa. The area around the cottage is peaceful, and the accommodation is surrounded by forest, providing quietness and privacy. The surrounding forest is great for walking and gathering plenty of wild berries and mushrooms. With the rowing boat included in the rental of the Latukka cottage, fishing in Lake Saimaa is easily accessible. Lake Saimaa offers excellent fishing opportunities. The Latukka is situated facing to the west, offering an increasable view of the sunset. Starry nights and the Northern Lights can be seen when the conditions are right.

Driving to the Puumala city center is the quickest option for purchasing food and other necessities, such as drinking water. It takes about 25 minutes by car to reach the city center (24 km away). In Puumala, there is a K-Market and a Sale grocery store. For dining out, Puumala has a pizzeria and around five restaurants that serve local dishes, including freshly caught lake fish, as well as other cuisines. Furthermore, the Puumala city center has a café, stores for purchasing fishing equipment, two gas stations, and more.

During your stay, there are many beautiful towns and cities in the Lake Saimaa region that you can visit.

  • Savonlinna (recommended!): Approximately 66 kilometers to the northeast, around a 1-hour drive
  • Lappeenranta: About 110 kilometers to the southeast, roughly a 1.5-hour drive.
  • Imatra: About 77 kilometers to the southeast, about 1 hour and 10 minutes drive.

Cottage Information and Rental Rules

  • Reservations for our cottage can be made through the Johku online booking system, email, Whatsapp, or by calling us. The confirmation of the booking will be sent once the payment has been completed.

  • This accommodation fits maximum four people. There are 1 double bed (160×200) and two single beds (80x200cm). Pets are not allowed.

  • Check-in: starting at 15.00 on the day of arrival.
  • Check-out: by 12.00 on the day of departure.

Guests are expected to leave the place tidy before check out. Please go through at least the following list:

  • Please put the bedsheets and towels on a pile
  • Please put the dishes to the dishwasher and turn it on (dishwasher tablets are in the closet under the sink)
  • Put things back on their place
  • Please empty your groceries from the refridgerator and leave it clean
  • Please collect your garbage and place them in the garbage bin outside the house.

Please also turn off the lights, TV and close the doors and windows before check-out. Return the key back to the lockbox.

We understand that sometimes holiday plans change. It is possible to cancel the cottage booking after paying, but please read through the cancellation policies and the Reservation Terms and Conditions before booking: (2025 Reservation Terms and Conditions). For a refund, our guests are responsible for making the cancellation in the required timeframe before the supposed stay. A written cancellation is always required.
