About the accommodation

Järvelä is a spacious cottage offering an impressive panoramic lake view. A cottage holiday has never been easier: with electric air pumps providing both air conditioning and heating on both floors, full equipped kitchen with a sink, an electric pump supplying running water to the sauna, a sauna conveniently located within the same building, sensor-based outdoor lighting in the yard, and modern amenities such as a large flat screen TV. The car can be parked right next to the cottage.

The cottage is surrounded by nature and has no nearby neighbours (nearest neighbour at more than 200 m away)—perfect for a peaceful and private stay. The cottage is two-floors and can comfortbly accommodate up to 5 guests. The upstairs balcony and the covered terrace provide the perfect view and the perfect place to watch the sunset or the stars. The kitchen is fully equipped, with dining areas available both indoors and outdoors.

The cottage is located in Hurissalo, Puumala. With facilities and shops nearby. The grocery store is located at 3 km distance and the cottage is accessible by car, boat, public transport, and bicycle.

The amenities include reasonable consumption of electricity, gas, and firewood as well as bed linen and towels, wireless internet connection, and the use of a rowing boat. The cottage is located on a bright sloping plot, with outdoor lighting and an illuminated wooden walkway from the cottage to the parking area and to the shore. The cottage is located at the end of a private road, with no other traffic.

Järvelä cottage is a spacious two floors cottage with a covered terrace and a balcony. The entire downstair floor is dedicated to the living room, dining area, kitchen, a sauna with a changing room and a covered terrace that surrounds the cottage. The upper floor, which also has a balcony, has been designed as a bedroom.

The living room is comfortably decorated with warm colours. There is a sofa and a smart TV with additional speakers in the living room, which provides a good sound system, making TV and movie nights enjoyable. The ground floor is surrounded by windows on all sides, filling the space with beautiful natural light throughout the day. The new outdoor offers the perfect space for outdoor dining, grilling, relaxing after the sauna, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones while enjoying the stunning lake-side views.

This traditional Finnish cottage is perfect for guests looking for a peaceful family or couple’s holiday, to be in nature, and to experience the calm of the lake. The private outdoor sauna is located right next to the main cottage. The comfortable changing room of the sauna is located indoors. The cottage has a wood-fired sauna and the usage of moderate firewood, electricity and gas is included in the rent.

The house features a well-equipped kitchen to prepare delicious homemade meals. In the kitchen of the Järvelä cottage, there is a powerful electric-powered stove, an electric oven, a microwave, a coffee machine, a water cooker, a blender, a toaster and a (large) refrigerator with freezer compartment.

What makes cooking at Järvelä very convenient, is that there is running water and a sink in the kitchen too. Our guests can make use of the cooking utensils, tableware, basic spices, paper towels and dishwashing liquid in the kitchen. Please note that the (filtered) running water comes from the lake is not suitable for drinking.

The outdoor multifunctional (gas) BBQ on the terrace, perfect for making sausages and grilling vegetables and meat, is available for use!

The entire upper floor is dedicated to a spacious sleeping area for five: there is one 160×200 cm double bed, one 120×200 cm bed and two 80×200 cm beds. This upper floor has its own modern air-conditioning system, able to supply both cold and hot air.

For clothing storage, there are shelves and a closet. In the bedroom, the beds are located in different corners. This creates extra privacy for our guests. We have created a sitting area with a lounge chair, facing the direction of the lake.

There are windows towards the west and east, providing our guests a view towards the forest and the lake from upstairs. From the spacious balcony upstairs, an incredible panoramic view on the lake can be seen. We will provide bedsheets and towels, the beds will be made ready for you before you arrive.

This cottage features a comfortable private wood-fired sauna and a cozy changing room, both accessible directly from the main building for added convenience. From the sauna, a separate exit leads to a set of stairs that take you directly down to the lake—making it easy to enjoy a refreshing dip after your sauna session. The soft, warm lighting in the sauna creates a cozy atmosphere inside the sauna, and in 2025 the sauna has been renovated, and a brand-new sauna stove was installed to enhance both comfort and efficiency.

The relaxed, refreshing feeling after each session in this traditional wood-fired sauna will make you want to enjoy it every day. The sauna is equipped with an electric pump that provides running water, so there’s no need to carry water from the lake— allowing for worry free sauna sessions.

The Järvelä cottage is fully equipped with electricity and has an air pump at each floor of the cottage, making this an easy cottage for guests looking to relax in the nature or looking to experience the Finnish cottage life for the first time.

With the installed air pump which can blow both hot and cold air, the temperature in the cottage can be brought to the desired level very quickly anytime. During the summer months, the cottage remains comfortably cool thanks to the air conditioning.

In the autumn, the heat pump can bring the cottage to a comfortable temperate in less than half en hour. No need to constantly add firewood to the fireplace, like what would be needed in a cottage solely dependent on a fireplace/wood-fired heater for heat.

To also generate heat with a cozy atmosphere, our guests can also make use of the fireplace. Firewood for the wood-stove/fireplace and sauna is stored in the storage area close to the outdoor toilet.

The Järvelä cottage has an environmental friendly toilet on the yard, close to the cottage. In the evening, a lightened path leads to the toilet. It is a clean, modern and odourless toilet that uses an efficient composting method to efficiently serve as a toilet. Toilet paper and composting materials to put in the toilet after using it, are available in the toilet.

The Järvelä cottage faces to the west, so each evening, stunning sunsets can be seen. Sitting either inside or on the terrace, our guests can fully relax and enjoy the beautiful and unique lake-side scenes. Directly out of the sauna, our guest can enjoy the stunning views of the lake.

In the evening, the sunset can be watched from the terrace or the deck of the cottage. Beginning in late September, when the conditions are favourable and the nights become darker earlier, our guests may witness a sky full of stars or even the northern lights!

  • From Helsinki: 273 km. A 2.5 to 3-hour drive, passing through scenic Finnish countryside. The journey offers a smooth and scenic route to the peaceful shores of Lake Saimaa

If you are travelling to Puumala center from the cottage, you will enjoy one of the most scenic routes in the Nordic countries, namely Road 62. This road has many beautiful curves, with pine trees in the background and parts where you will be driving between incredible islands. Additionally, day trips to other cities in the region are convenient by car or motorcycle from Puumala.

The cottage is surrounded by beautiful coniferous forest, and there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. The mushroom and berry-picking areas around the cottage are excellent.

At the Puumala harbour in the center, it is possible to go on a boat trip to explore Lake Saimaa, rent a canoe, kayak or boat and mountain bike. There are affordable renting possibilities from local companies.

LOCATION OF THE COTTAGE

Järvela cottage is located in the Hurissalo area of Puumala, with the beautiful Kärnäjärvi lake as view. Järvelä is located on the shore of Lake Kärnäjärvi, which is connected to Lake Saimaa. The cottage offers a beautiful lake view to the west in the direction of the sunset. It is situated in a rather elevated, peaceful location at the end of a private road, with the nearest neighbour more than 200 m away.

Hurissalo is the third-largest inland-water island in Finland and it has its own kyläyhdistys (village association) that supports local life, activities, and culture. Hurissalo is part of the Puumala archipelago on Lake Saimaa. The services and store of Hurissalo village, as well as the bus stop, are only 3 km away, and the marina is 900 m away.

The area around the cottage is peaceful, and the accommodation is surrounded by forest, providing quietness and privacy. The surrounding forest is great for walking and gathering plenty of wild berries and mushrooms. With the rowing boat included in the rental of the Latukka cottage, fishing in Lake Kärnäjärvi is easily accessible and offers excellent fishing opportunities.

Starry nights and the Northern Lights can be seen when the conditions are right.

Driving to the Hurissalo Sale (grocery store) is the quickest option for purchasing food and other necessities, such as drinking water and food. Visiting Puumala center or Mikkeli are other two possibilities. Sale (grocery) store in Hurissalo, has been named as “Finland’s best Sale” for a few times!

It takes about 30 minutes by car to reach Puumala city center (35 km away) from the cottage. In Puumala, there is a K-Market and a Sale grocery store. For dining out, Puumala has a pizzeria and around five restaurants that serve local dishes, including freshly caught lake fish, as well as other cuisines. Furthermore, the Puumala city center has a café, stores for purchasing fishing equipment, two gas stations, and more.

In Mikkeli, you can visit larger grocery stores like Prisma or the Lidl.

During your stay, there are many beautiful towns and cities in the Lake Saimaa region that you can visit.

  • Savonlinna (recommended!): Approximately 98 kilometres to the northeast, around a 1.5 hour drive
  • Lappeenranta: About 135 kilometers to the southeast, roughly a 1 hour 45 minutes drive by car.
  • Imatra: About 100 kilometers to the southeast, about 1.5h drive.

  • Reservations for our cottage can be made through the Johku online booking system, email, Whatsapp, or by calling us. The confirmation of the booking will be sent once the payment has been completed.

  • This accommodation fits maximum five people. There is a 160×200 cm double bed, one 120×200 cm bed and two 80×200 cm beds

  • Check-in: starting at 15.00 on the day of arrival.
  • Check-out: by 12.00 on the day of departure.

  • Please put the bedsheets and towels on a pile
  • Please wash the dishes you have used and place it back
  • Put other items that have moved back on their place
  • Please empty your groceries from the refrigerator and leave the refrigerator & the freezer clean
  • Please collect your garbage and place them in the garbage bin outside the house.

Please also turn off the lights, TV and close the doors and windows before check-out. Return the key to the lockbox.

We understand that sometimes holiday plans change. It is possible to cancel the cottage booking after paying, but please read through the cancellation policies and the Reservation Terms and Conditions before booking: (2025 Reservation Terms and Conditions). For a refund, our guests are responsible for making the cancellation in the required timeframe before the supposed stay. A written cancellation is always required.
