We currently offer three traditional Finnish cottages across Puumala and one guest house located in the town center of Puumala. Each providing a comfortable stay for your holiday in Finland.

The Puumala municipality is located in the South-Eastern Finland, in the heart of the Finnish Lakeland region, known for its beautiful lakes, islands, and forests. The area is a heaven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Looking for a place to totally recharge and find inner peace? Puumala is the place to be. With just 2.65 inhabitants per square kilometer in Puumala (compared to 3,042 inhabitants per square kilometer in Helsinki) peacefulness and very fresh air is guaranteed here.

Throughout the summer, Puumala is lively and several events are organized in the area, in addition to the local marketplace with numerous stalls and food tents.

Puumala has numerous hiking paths as well as various sports and recreation options such as canoeing and boating. You might even be able to see the rare Saimaa Seal while visiting the area. Throughout the summer, cyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers can be seen taking the famous circular road trip that starts in Savonlinna and ends in Punkaharju, with beautiful stops in Rantasalmi, Juva, Mikkeli, Anttola, Puumala—where they cross the famous Puumala Bridge—and Parikkala. The Puumala Archipelago Route offers a breathtaking 60-kilometer journey around Lake Saimaa, perfect for cyclists and motorcyclists seeking scenic views in Finland. Your cycling efforts will be rewarded with stunning archipelago scenery that is truly unique in the world. Along the way, you’ll come across incredible sandy beaches where you should definitely take a refreshing dip.

Saimaa boating trips in Puumala

With approximately 36% of its 1,237.75 square kilometers covered by lakes, Puumala is the perfect destination for a Saimaa boating trip and to do other water sports.

Several boat rental companies operate in the Lake Saimaa area, making a boating holiday visiting one of the many Finnish Lakeland islands possible. Besides renting a boat to discover the area by yourself, local companies and organisations also offer day cruises around Puumala like the local Saimaa hop on hop off cruises, Saimaa Seal Cruises and unique fish cruises with local fishers.

Driving to Puumala from other Cities

Puumala is conveniently situated within a reasonable driving distance from several major Finnish cities.

If you are traveling to Puumala from the direction of Mikkeli, you will enjoy one of the most scenic routes in the Nordic countries, namely Road 62. Additionally, day trips to other cities in the region are easily feasible by car or motorcycle from Puumala.

To Puumala:

  • From Helsinki: Approximately 300 kilometers, about a 3.5-hour drive.
  • From Tampere: Approximately 335 kilometers, about a 4 hour drive.

To visit other cities in the region:

  • Savonlinna: Approximately 70 kilometers to the northeast, around a 1-hour drive.
  • Mikkeli: About 70 kilometers to the west, roughly a 1-hour drive.
  • Lappeenranta: About 100 kilometers to the southeast, roughly a 1.5-hour drive.
